Accomodations in Brazil
Brazil has a diversity that is almost unmatched in the world. This diversity applies to many things in Brazil; there are people so remote that they have never had contact with civilization. Brazil is also home to the largest city and commercial center in the Southern Hemisphere.
Just like there are so many places to go and things to see in Brazil, there are an infinite number of hotels and places to stay in the country. Even within one region you can find a wide variety of different lodging from the very simple to the most elegant.
If you are going to be in one of the larger cities like Sao Paulo or Rio de Janeiro, you always have the option of staying in one of the five star hotels that are available there. They will have everything that you would expect from a world-class hotel. You can get valet service, there will be a pool on site for the use of the guests, there will be a restaurant and a bar and you can probably assume that the security will be very good in the better hotels. If you can afford to stay in one then it is a great way to see Brazil, enjoying the extravagance and color of the streets and then retiring to the serenity and comfort of the hotel room.
Common in Brazil are apartment hotels. While you might sacrifice some things like the tight security and the pool, there are advantages to them as well. First of all, they will be more affordable, and you can also often get much more space for your money than you could in the more expensive hotels. If you are traveling alone or just as a couple, it might make sense to get a hotel room, but if you are bringing a large family or traveling with a large group this might be substantially cheaper than the hotel option. On top of the money that you will save on the hotel charges, the apartment hotels will often have a kitchen. While they are not often large it can allow you to make some of your food at home and save money. The cuisine in Brazil is incredible, but sometimes eating out all the time can become a chore. There are times when you just want to stay in and have a quick and simple breakfast instead of getting up, getting ready and going somewhere to wait for a meal. If your plans are to stay for an extended period of time then the apartment hotel or even an apartment rental might be the best thing for you.
While you won’t likely find them in the larger cities, you can usually find a bed-and-breakfast when you are in the outlying areas. Sometimes they can be harder to find as they don’t have websites set up but if you ask around a little you can often find a good one. They are a nice, relaxing change and you will often learn a lot from talking to a local about where to go and what to see than you can from a pamphlet.
