Brazil Bus
If you are going to be traveling within Brazil, it is wise to plan out your trip as far as what you would like to see and how you are going to get there. There are a few different methods of getting around and they each have their advantages and their drawbacks.
Brazil has many large, modern cities and they are serviced by large airports. If you want to cover a lot of area then this is a good way to go. The plane is by far the fastest method of getting around, and despite what you may think it is actually one of the safest.
While you are in Brazil you can rent a car, but this route might not be right for everybody. The cars drive on the right side of the road, so if you come from a country that is the same you are better off. Something that you might want to consider is that while there are traffic rules in Brazil, they are not always followed. Overtaking has become an art form, and you will be a little surprised if you are not ready for it. Brazilian drivers can also have tendencies like rolling stops that can catch you off guard if you are not aware. You should also be cognizant that the signals used are not the same in all countries. If you see a left-hand turn signal from the car ahead of you, it might mean that they are turning left and it might be a warning for you not to pass them. Flashing the high beams into oncoming traffic can sometimes mean that there is an obstruction on the road. Obstructions can range from livestock to police speed traps so it is wise to approach with caution.
Train travel in Brazil is not efficient and is not advised. When there were military conflicts much of the rail system was left in ruin, and has not been updated. You can expect to see delays and since the system is not widespread it will not have much flexibility as far as where you can go and when.
One of the best ways to get around in Brazil is by bus. The network of bus routes is extensive and you can find a ride to just about anywhere. Most of the roads are good in Brazil but not all of them, so taking the bus will help you avoid having to navigate roads that are in disrepair and you will not get lost. When traveling by bus you can choose from three different levels of comfort, and if you can afford a First-Class or Leito ticket you will travel in comfort. The bus companies in Brazil are fairly advanced because it is the main mode of transportation and many of them will allow you to purchase the ticket from your hotel phone and have it delivered to you. Your hotel concierge should be able to help you with this.
Choose a safe and reliable method of travel when you are in Brazil and you will enjoy your vacation that much more and see the amazing scenery the country has to offer.
