Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro

If you want to go on a vacation that you will never forget, consider a trip to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.  Rio has been portrayed in movies, people have sung about it in more songs that you can count and endless depictions of the city have been put into print.  It is known to be one of the wildest, most romantic and exciting destinations in the world.

The high season in Rio comes from about December to March.  During this time the weather is the warmest and the rainfall will be slightly less than it is at other times of the year.  You can still experience some rain but you won’t likely be discouraged because there are many things to keep you occupied indoors in the city as well.  During the high season it is very busy, and if you like that then you will have a great time.  In the low season the temperature can drop a little, sometimes as low as 70 or even 60 degrees Fahrenheit.  Still, there will be warmer days than that but you won’t see the crowds that you would during high season.

Rio de Janeiro is famous for its festivals and celebrations.  The New Year’s party in Rio de Janeiro is unique and amazing.  There are millions of revelers on the beaches and packed into the clubs and discos to ring in the New Year.  Carnival is also a big attraction in Rio de Janeiro with street dancers performing, music everywhere and more great food that you could possibly sample in a week’s time.  Don’t forget to check out some of the famous beaches like Ipanema and Copacabana.

Places that you will definitely want to include in your itinerary are the statue of Christ the Redeemer and the Sugar Loaf Cable Car.  The statue stands on the top of Corcovado Mountain and is one of the most photographed locations in all of Brazil.  To see it in person is truly awe-inspiring.  The Sugar Loaf Cable Car is one of the most popular attractions for tourists as it is very safe with a perfect track record and it can offer you views that you can’t imagine.  The natural beauty of the area is even more evident when you are able to see it from a bird’s eye view.

When you visit Rio de Janeiro you should also beware that as is the case with many cities full of tourists, there are people that want to take advantage of this.  There are many potential victims there so if you make it hard for the pickpockets and scammers to target you then they will likely move on to the next person (that guy carrying a massive Nikon camera around his neck).  Don’t stick out too much and you should be fine.  If you are concerned, you might want to stay in a hotel that has tight security, there are many of them and they are also very comfortable and offer all of the modern amenities you would expect.
