Buzios, Brazil

The full name of Buzios is actually Armação dos Búzios, but is it most commonly referred to as Buzios.  Is is a relatively small town with a population of about 25,000 but it has gained fame as a premier getaway for tourists that wish to enjoy the beauty of Brazil’s beaches without some of the crowds that you might find in other cities in Brazil.  It was originally founded by European settlers, and further grew with the arrival of slave traders.  This has created a cultural and ethnic mix in Buzios that gives the town some of its charm.

Buzio lies on the East Coast of Brazil, just a couple of hours drive from the vibrant Rio de Janeiro.  It is a much different place, being much quieter but still boasts many activities for travelers that find themselves there.  It has a reputation for being the vacation destination for many wealthy and famous people, perhaps the most notable of which is Brigette Bardot.  There was a statue of her erected on the Rua das Pedras, which is the main street in the town.  The statue is still there today.

There are over twenty beaches that you can enjoy when you are in Buzios, and they offer things like snorkeling tours, surfing and windsurfing.  Buzios remains unspoiled in terms of the natural plant and wildlife and tourists can enjoy the natural splendour of the area.  It has also enjoyed a booming tourist industry, and this has meant that there are numerous upscale boutiques and shops lining the streets, and the cuisine is some of the finest in the area.  This little resort town also has a vibrant night life for those that wish to enjoy the music and dancing Brazil is so well known for.

The area around Buzios is teeming with natural beauty and there are numerous wildlife reserves that you can visit and witness the animals in their natural habitat.  It is home to countless species of birds, butterflies and other animals, not to mention the wide variety of fauna that are native to the region.  There are now two distict environmental protection areas within Buzios, and the amount of development in the area has been limited to preserve the pristine natural habitat and ensure that it will remain beautiful for generations to come.

Buzios hosts travelers from all over the world, and if you go there part of the fun is meeting both the local people but the others that have come from Europe, Africa, Asia and elsewhere in the Americas to witness the beauty and enjoy all that Buzios has to offer.  Cruise ships frequently travel here, and there are also a large number of tourists from nearby Argentina that come for the fun and the sunny beaches.

There are tours that will go through Buzios, but you might find that this is the perfect vacation spot and it might be worthwhile to spend your entire time there.  For a small town there is so much to do, and you will marvel at the stunning array of wildlife that flourishes there.
